My love of comics (more history) part 1
It is sad to say that I don’t remember the first comic that I ever read. I have read and love comics so much that timeframes and stories blend together. I do remember being young and with my father at a small gas station called Maverick Market. It’s logo being a small cowboy with a huge hat. You could always buy a slush puppie there. Usually when I went with my parents there, I would have to contemplate whether to ask for a comic that looked cool or a slush puppie. My brothers had comics here and there, not really collectors at that time, so I would always try and find a cool looking comic to try and impress them. Them being older… I never got that satisfaction. But I remember one day looking where they had the comics and seeing Giant Sized Annual The Amazing Spider-Man Issue No. 21. Spider-Man gets married! I remember because here I was 7 or 8 looking at a comic with Spider-Man standing with Mary Jane with all of these superheroes and villains colliding in the background. I was in awe… “This will surely have my brothers claiming me ‘king for the day’ for finding something so cool,” I thought to myself. I asked my dad and he bought it for me. I brought it home after looking through it and proudly showed it to my brothers… to which they laughed at me and said I was stupid. The same would happen later on in life when I bought the first full appearance of Carnage. I would read through these comics over and over again thoroughly wearing down these great books down. Even though my brothers didn’t show love to these issues, I loved them. (Important later)
